Ballet Folklórico La Paloma has been an esteemed cultural delegate for Tucson, AZ, notably at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and London,England in 2012. The American Alliance of Performing Arts Educators has frequently extended invitations to our group for international appearances. Despite the educational commitments of several dancers, our collective ambition is to tour globally post-education, sharing the esteemed Mexican performing arts that have previously received widespread praise.
Your support is crucial for the continuity of our costume craftsmanship and restoration. As we welcome new talent, personalized costuming is essential. This year’s inaugural performance spearheads a series of entertainment and fundraising endeavors. Your backing enables us to maintain our commitment to folk art across all age groups and to offer pro bono performances that serve the community, including church fundraisers and entertainment for seniors in residential care.
Lajkonik Polish Folk Ensemble from Tucson has been sharing the rich traditions of Poland for over 25 years. The group was founded by Joanna Schmit who grew up in Warsaw, Poland and now her older son Matthew with his wife Amy lead the group. They collaborate with experts in Polish folklore and with regional dance groups in Poland to present authentic Polish culture. Lajkonik performs at many festivals in Tucson and Phoenix as well as in Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Huston and Poland. The colorful costumes are purchased in Poland and some are are locally made thanks to fundraisings and donations.
